HANZA Strategic Plan 2023 to 2028

HANZA is the Homeshare peak body in Australia and New Zealand. HANZA promotes the establishment of Homeshare programs, provides expert advice, support and capacity-building to organisations operating or aspiring to operate Homeshare programs, and advocates to communities, governments, and organisations to have homesharing accepted as a housing model within the aged care, disability, and homelessness sectors.

Homesharing was developed originally to ensure a viable, affordable, and sustainable model of supported shared living, initially for older people, and more recently for members of other vulnerable groups who experience challenges in finding or remaining in safe, supportive, and home-like environments. In the 21 st century this has become an even greater need with an ageing population, increases in resource poor single women, a significant decline in the availability of affordable housing and greater recognition of the costs and challenges of providing and living in supported accommodation.

HANZA has been an incorporated organisation since 2010 and has a growing membership from organisations delivering or aspiring to deliver a Homeshare service, and from those who wish to support and advocate for Homeshare. We support and resource our members and liaise with community organisations, business, and governments to increase awareness of Homeshare and the availability of Homeshare services.

Our work is founded on 20 years’ hands-on experience in the homesharing field both locally in Victoria, nationally and internationally, on strong links with the International Homeshare movement and on evidence derived from the research and evaluation that underpins homesharing and its developments in the 21st century.

    We will do this by:

1.1 Continually engaging in stakeholder mapping to identify where HANZA can best engage, influence, and build collaborations and partnerships that will promote and implement Homeshare as a viable, supported, shared living arrangement.

1.2 Targeting our advocacy and engagement strategies into key sectors, such as aged services, homelessness, disability, and community wellbeing, and to those population groups experiencing challenging circumstances.

1.3 Developing a body of relevant evidence, data, and information to underpin our work in all areas and especially in advocacy, engagement and partnerships.

  • Membership Support and Development

We develop and resource a vibrant and engaged membership base of individuals and organisations involved in and supportive of Homeshare.

    We will do this by:

2.1 Listening and responding to members’ concerns, interests, and issues.

2.2 Providing a suite of resources, information, tools, and support to members.

2.3 Engaging members in collecting research, data, and evidence around home-sharing.

2.4 Offering opportunities to members to participate in information sharing, evidence collection, consultation, and training activities.

2.5 Expanding the numbers and scope of the membership.

  • Promotion of Homeshare and HANZA

We work to build the knowledge and understanding by governments, organisations and the community of the concepts and benefits of Homeshare using targeted and professional marketing and communications.

    We will do this by:

3.1 Developing, implementing, monitoring, and regularly adjusting a targeted marketing and communications strategy.

3.2 Resourcing and recruiting expert assistance in marketing and communications to support the rollout of the marketing strategy.

3.3 Collecting and disseminating qualitative and quantitative data to illustrate the effectiveness and benefits of home-sharing.

  • Financial and Organisational Sustainability

We work to ensure HANZA is an effective and sustainable organisation with a secure financial future.

    We will do this by:

4.1 Developing and monitoring a five-year financial plan with a specified sustainable financial goal to be reached by mid-2028.

4.2 Diversifying funding sources, including grants, membership, donations, fundraising, partnerships and consultancy with government, business, and community.

4.3 Increasing the capacity of HANZA in fundraising, promotions, marketing, membership support and development and consultancy work.

4.4 Ensuring HANZA’s work is framed by best practice reporting, policies, and procedures in relation to finances, governance, communications and membership to ensure full compliance and accountability.
