Homeshare around the world 

Maggie Kuhn, founder of the Gray Panthers, set up the first Homeshare Programs in 1972. It was the first of many programs found in the USA today.


In the United Kingdom, Homeshare was taken up in London in the early 1980s with European countries later embracing the concept.


In the 1990s, Spain embarked on a Homeshare Program initially to meet an urgent need for student accommodation in Granada. The concept was soon adopted in Darmstadt, Germany, also to meet the need for student accommodation. There are now several programs in Germany.


HANZA was formed in 2000 to support Homeshare in Australia and New Zealand.


ensemble2générations, was founded in Paris in 2006 before the concept spread to other parts of France.


By 2013 pilot Homeshare Programs were developed in Japan, the first in Asia.
