Homeshare Australia and New Zealand Alliance (HANZA) is the peak body for Homeshare and its providers in Australia and New Zealand, advocating for the development of Homeshare in the region.
HANZA was established in 2000 and incorporated in 2010. We are a member of Homeshare International, a global organisation representing Homeshare programs in eighteen countries.
HANZA advocates for the development of Homeshare across Australia and New Zealand and seeks to build awareness and support for homesharing. Homeshare arrangements play a vital role in delivering viable, affordable and sustainable housing options.
Supported, shared living arrangements for mutual benefit and community wellbeing, available to all.
As the peak body for Homeshare in the region, we advocate, promote and support homesharing as a supported, mutually beneficial and professionally delivered shared living arrangement.
Homeshare offers supportive living arrangements which are mutually beneficial to householders and homesharers.
Homeshare provides a range of benefits to individuals and the community such as:
Homeshare is a viable, affordable and sustainable housing solution.
It brings people together in shared households through carefully negotiated and supported living arrangements.
Homeshare is based on the belief that the companionship of a shared living arrangement can help negate feelings of social isolation and enhance the wellbeing of all in the household. Through the sharing of skills and experiences, the householder and homesharer enrich each other’s lives.
Homeshare programs match an independent & householder, who could benefit from companionship and help in the home, with a homesharer who lends a hand in return for affordable accommodation.
The traditional Homeshare model involves an older person or someone with a disability who requires practical assistance to help them remain living in their own home.
In exchange for accommodation, including shared facilities, the homesharer assists the householder. Assistance may include cooking, cleaning, shopping and gardening as well as providing company and the added security of having someone else sleeping in the home.
An emerging Homeshare concept involves householders offering a shared arrangement to more vulnerable community members such as those at risk of homelessness, refugees or asylum seekers.
